When Is The Flu Vaccine Available
The CDC recommends getting the seasonal flu vaccine in September or October, before the flu begins to spread in communities. Because the flu season normally peaks in February and lasts well into May, the CDC recommends getting a flu vaccine even if you don’t get it before the end of October.
The seasonal flu vaccine usually becomes available in July or August, according to the CDC, which is when children should get it. Adults are advised not to get vaccinated at this time since the flu vaccine’s effectiveness decreases over time.

Give Yourself A Shot Of Good Health By Getting A Flu Shot Soon
While Employee Serivices will not hold on-campus flu shots clinics this year, CU Health Plan providers offer plenty of convenient ways to get your annual inoculation against the flu, often at no cost.
The CDC recommends that you and your family members get a flu vaccine in September or October. Because it takes about two weeks for the flu vaccine to provide protection, it is recommended that you and your family members to get vaccinated before the flu begins spreading in your community. Getting the flu vaccine later in the season is still beneficial assuming flu viruses are prevalent and can protect you and your family members from serious flu illness and flu-related complications.
This year, flu shots are highly recommended as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to change and evolve on a global scale. Both flu and COVID-19 are serious respiratory illnesses. Because some symptoms of the flu and COVID-19 are similar, it may be hard to tell the difference between them based on symptoms alone, and testing may be needed to help confirm a diagnosis.
The number of immunizations created each season are limited and it is expected flu shots will be in high demand as long as the COVID-19 pandemic remains an active threat.
Check out the following additional resources, which vary by CU Health Plan, and give yourself a shot at good health!

What Kind Of Protection Does The Flu Vaccine Offer
The flu vaccine, according to the CDC, can cut your chances of catching the flu by 40% to 60%. It goes on to add that there are two main factors that determine whether or not the flu vaccine will protect you from becoming ill with the flu. The person’s attributes, such as age and health, as well as how well the current season’s immunizations “match” the flu viruses circulating in the population, are all taken into account.
Who Should Get The Flu Vaccine
The CDC recommends that everyone six months of age and older get the flu vaccine every season. It does, however, mention that different vaccines may be required for different people. The nasal spray flu vaccine is not recommended for pregnant women due to an increased risk of complications, according to the CDC.

The Importance Of Getting A Flu Shot This Year
- Boulder Community Health
This year, its more important than ever to get a seasonal flu shot as early as possible.
Recent projections from Colorado public health experts indicate that the next surge in COVID-19 is likely to coincide with the start of the 2020-21 flu season. Thats why Dr. Amie Meditz, infectious diseases specialist at the Beacon Center for Infectious Diseases, urges: As soon as you are able to get the vaccination, you should do so. It should not be delayed.
For the upcoming flu season, flu vaccination is important to reduce the overall impact of respiratory illnesses on the community and the local health care system. Dr. Meditz explains: With the ongoing presence of COVID-19 in Boulder County, it more important than ever to seek vaccination for other preventable diseases, particularly influenza, because it offers the best way to minimize the number of patients seeking treatment at Foothills Hospital, our urgent care centers and our emergency departments.
Seasonal flu vaccinations are now available at Boulder Community Health clinics. To schedule a convenient time to receive a flu shot, contact your BCH primary care clinic or call 303-415-4015 to schedule an appointment.
Here are three ways you and your family can avoid influenza this season:1. Everyone should get a flu shot
It takes your body about two weeks to develop a response to the vaccine, so earlier vaccination is key.

Flu Shot: Your Best Bet For Avoiding Influenza
The flu, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention , is a potentially fatal illness that can lead to hospitalization and death. Millions of people in the United States contract the flu each year, and tens of thousands of people die as a result of flu-related illnesses, according to the report. The flu can cause ear infections, bacterial pneumonia, and chronic health problems such as diabetes and heart failure.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention , the flu vaccine has been shown to reduce the risk of flu-related illness, hospitalizations, and fatalities in children. According to the Centers for Sickness Control and Prevention, it may even reduce the severity of disease in people who suffer breakthrough infections after getting vaccinated.

What Are My Flu Vaccine Delivery Options
There are two types of flu vaccines: injection and nasal spray. According to the CDC, most flu vaccinations are administered with a needle inserted into the arm muscle, though a jet injector may be used in people aged 18 to 64. The nasal spray immunization is only available to people aged two to 49, with the exception of pregnant women and people with compromised immune systems, according to the CDC.
Benefits Of The Flu Shot
Because the virus is so contagious and is constantly mutating, the most effective way to prevent getting sick is by getting vaccinated each year. By getting your flu shot early in the season, you will be able to give your body time to adjust to the shot and become immune to the virus.
The flu vaccine typically takes between two and three weeks to take effect and by getting the shot as soon as it is available, you will be able to reduce the risk of being vulnerable when the virus is spreading through your community.
On the chance you still get the flu, getting the shot will help lessen your symptoms.

Why Do I Need To Get Vaccinated Every Year
According to the CDC, everyone six months and older should get a flu shot every year. Because flu viruses evolve over time, flu vaccines must be updated every year to offer protection against the most recent strain. According to the CDC, the flu vaccine’s immunity weakens over time, so a yearly dose can provide the most protection.
