Can You Get The Flu Shot At The Same Time As A Covid

Although data on receiving the COVID vaccine at the same time as the influenza vaccine is limited, the CDC advises that its safe to do so. Research is ongoing, but one study among healthcare workers found that the flu shot offered some protection against severe forms of COVID-19. But because they are two different viruses, you should be vaccinated against each one to be fully protected. Getting the flu shot will not interfere with the effects of the COVID-19 vaccine, and you dont have to disclose whether youve been vaccinated for COVID-19 if you dont want to.

In the instance that youre experiencing flu symptoms or youve tested positive for COVID-19, you should wait until recovering and completing your isolation period before getting a flu or COVID-19 shot. For mild symptoms and a negative COVID-19 test, its okay to go ahead and get vaccinated for the flu or COVID-19.

What Is The Flu

Influenza is an infectious respiratory disease. Generally, the flu may resolve on its own. However, if the flu goes untreated, you may be at risk for complications that can be life-threatening. Those that might be at a higher risk of severe flu complications include children under 5, adults over 65, pregnant women, and people with chronic illnesses or compromised immune systems. If you fall into any of these categories, it is essential that you take strides towards flu prevention by getting your flu shot at MinuteClinic. The flu shot works by exposing you to an inactive flu virus and the flu vaccines cause antibodies to develop in the body after vaccination. These antibodies will help to protect you if you are exposed to the flu virus. Essentially, getting a flu shot prepares your body to fight the flu.

Its important to note that there are two types of flu vaccinations: trivalent and quadrivalent. Trivalent vaccines protect against 2 strains of influenza A and 1 strain of influenza B, whereas quadrivalent vaccines protect against 2 strains of influenza A and 2 strains of influenza B. All of the flu vaccines in the 2021-2022 season are of the quadrivalent variety, and are safe for individuals over 6 months of age with a few exceptions.

Rite Aid holds walk-in clinic Thursday CVS urging vaccinations, boosters

May 05, 2021 – CVS Health recently announced that it began administering COVID-19 vaccines at workplace vaccination sites to increase access to vaccinations.

The vaccination increase comes on the heels of expanded eligibility to all adults in the US and an increasing vaccine supply. The initiative will take place through Return Ready.

Return Ready was first introduced as a customizable COVID-19 testing solution last June, but it now includes COVID-19 vaccination options in addition to clinical protocols, digital scheduling tools, and detailed reporting to meet the unique worksite needs of employers.

Dig Deeper

The New York Shipping Association previously worked with Return Ready to operate vaccination clinics that included the International Longshoremens Association and its members.

The City of Philadelphia is also currently working with Return Ready for their vaccination clinics as well.

“The widespread rollout of COVID-19 vaccines is a welcome and hopeful new chapter in the fight against the global pandemic. Return Ready can help employers increase their capacity to vaccinate and help bring Americans back to worksites safely,” Sree Chaguturu, MD, chief medical officer of CVS Caremark, said in the announcement.

CVS Health will be responsible for administering vaccinations at onsite clinics with trained staff who can answer patient questions about the vaccine and direct them to available resources.

CVS Health sourced the doses directly from the federal government.
