The Affordable Care Act requires that insurance companies cover the cost of the flu shot. Plus, under the ACA, insurers cannot charge a copayment, per the Department of Health & Human Services.
A person should check with the site providing the shot to make sure they accept assignment from Medicare or accept Medicare Advantage. People with private insurance should check their plan to make sure they can get the shot from a particular location for free.
Some insurance plans cover the shot only if a person receives it from their doctor. Other plans provide coverage if the shot comes from certain other locations as well.

Nc Immunization Program/vaccines For Children
Under NC Immunization Program/Vaccines for Children guidelines, the NC Division of Public Health Immunization Branch distributes all childhood vaccines that are recommended by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices to local health departments, Federally Qualified Health Centers , Rural Health Clinics hospitals and private providers.
For the 2021-2022 influenza season, NCIP/VFC influenza vaccine all quadrivalent is available at no charge to providers for children 6 months through 18 years of age who are eligible for the VFC program, according to the NCIP coverage criteria. In addition to the COVID-19 vaccine, the CDC recommends 13 vaccines for adults:

Rewards previously were limited to those 18 and older
COLUMBUS, Ohio For Ohio Medicaid members, any back-to-school preparation should start at a pharmacy, doctors office or community event where free COVID-19 vaccines are available. A $100 gift-card incentive for vaccination, previously offered only to adults, now includes children ages 12 to 17. That means every Medicaid Managed Care member old enough to be vaccinated also qualifies for the incentive.
The incentive is being expanded as children return to classrooms and COVID-19 cases rise dramatically in Ohio and nationwide, with the Delta variant becoming the dominant strain identified in new cases. Delta also appears more highly transmissible than previous variants and more likely to infect younger adults and children.
Getting students 12 and up vaccinated will provide peace of mind to parents, caregivers and educators, said Kelly OReilly, president and chief executive officer of the Ohio Association of Health Plans. Vaccination is the surest way to protect teens against COVID-19.
The campaign and the incentive are working. Ohio Medicaid Director Maureen Corcoran announced recently that the number of Medicaid members getting their first dose rose by 49% in the first week of August compared with the week before.
Medicaid vaccine gift cards will continue to be available to eligible Ohioans through Dec. 31, 2021.

NOTE: Effective August 1, 2020, all immunization records turned in to schools or child care centers are required by state law to be medically verified. Your child can’t attend until you provide these records.
Immunization records must be turned in to the school or child care on or before the first day of attendance. Records turned in to the school or child care must be from a health care provider, or you must attach paperwork from a health care provider to your handwritten form that shows your childs records are accurate. Children Through 18 Years Of Age Who Meet At Least One Of The Following Criteria Are Eligible To Receive Vfc Vaccine:
- Medicaid eligible: A child who is eligible for the Medicaid program.
- Uninsured: A child who has no health insurance coverage
- American Indian or Alaska Native: As defined by the Indian Health Care Improvement Act
- Underinsured: A child who has health insurance, but the coverage does not include vaccines a child whose insurance covers only selected vaccines A child whose insurance has a fixed dollar limit or cap for vaccines . Underinsured children are eligible to receive VFC vaccine only through a Federally Qualified Health Center , or Rural Health Clinic or under an approved deputization agreement.
Children whose health insurance covers the cost of vaccinations are not eligible for VFC vaccines, even when a claim for the cost of the vaccine and its administration would be denied for payment by the insurance carrier because the plans deductible had not been met.
Provider Responsibility To Screen For Vfc Eligibility
Screening to determine a childs eligibility to receive vaccines through the VFC Program and documentation of the screening results must take place with each immunization visit. The patient eligibility screening record provides a means of recording parent responses to VFC eligibility questions. The parent, guardian or provider may complete this form. Verification of parent/guardian responses is not required. To maximize efficiency, providers may elect to incorporate these screening questions into an existing form however, any revision must include the core screening information listed on the CDC-developed form and be approved by the state Immunization Program. Patient eligibility screening records should be maintained on file for a minimum of 3 years after service to the patient has been completed unless state law/policy establishes a longer archival period.

Molina Healthcare of Michigan, United Outstanding Physicians , a physician organization comprised of nearly 1,000 independent private practice physicians across Southeast Michigan, and Kroger Health, the healthcare division of the Kroger Co., recently partnered to host a free influenza immunization event for the city of Dearborn and surrounding communities.
The drive-thru and walk-in event was located at the UOP Office at 18800 Hubbard Drive, Suite 200 in Dearborn. Participants had the option to drive-thru or walk-in to receive their flu shot. Masks were required for anyone participating in the flu vaccination clinic.
This clinic was for insured and uninsured adults, individuals 18 years of age and older and children, and was part of an ongoing initiative to provide preventative and specialty medical care to uninsured and underinsured populations. No appointment was necessary to participate.
Individuals who received their flu shot received a complimentary Warm All Winter tote with a blanket, hand sanitizer, socks, tissues, hand warmers, and a mask. Attendees also received health education literature such as the importance of an annual check-up with their health care provide and dental hygiene.
