County Addresses Flu Vaccine Shortage

People who are ages 18 years and older may get a booster shot based on their individual risks and benefits. This recommendation may change in the future as more data become available.

All people ages 18 years and older who received a J& J/Janssen COVID-19 vaccine at least 2 months ago should get a booster shot, for a total of two shots. A single dose of the J& J/Janssen COVID-19 vaccine has lower vaccine effectiveness compared to two doses.

  • Bring your CDC COVID-19 Vaccination Record card to your booster shot appointment so your provider can fill in the information about your booster dose.If you did not receive a card at your first appointment, contact the vaccination site where you got your first shot or your state health department to find out how you can get a card.

  • You may experience side effects after getting a COVID-19 vaccine. These are normal signs that your body is building protection against COVID-19.

  • Use v-safe to tell CDC about any side effects. If you enter yourbooster shot in your

v-safe account, the system will send you daily health check-ins.

Yes. COVID-19 booster shots are the same formulation as the current COVID-19 vaccines. However, in the case of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine booster shot, it is half the dose of the vaccine people get for their primary series.

Studies show after getting vaccinated against COVID-19, protection against the virus and the ability to prevent infection with the Delta variant may decrease over time.

Do You Need The Flu Shot If You’ve Received The Covid

Vicks® Children

Video transcript

If youve already gotten the COVID-19 vaccine, it is also recommended and important that you get the flu shot this year. One covers you against the influenza virus, and the other covers you for the COVID-19 viruses. Theyre two distinct vaccines.

Every year, the flu vaccine is different.

This year, we suspect that the cases for the flu may increase.

Once you get the flu shot, it takes two weeks to become effective in your system. So the earlier you get it, the less exposure you have to others who are sick within your community.

Publix Pharmacies are offering flu immunizations, including needle-free and intradermal options, this flu season. Trained Publix pharmacists administer the injections.

Offering seasonal flu shots is an example of the premier service our customers expect from Publix, noted Maria Brous, director of media and community relations at the Lakeland, Fla.-based, employee-owned and operated grocer, which operates 1,039 stores in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama and Tennessee. Publix cares about its customers, and vaccinations also help lessen the spread of communicable diseases in our community.

All Publix pharmacies provide the traditional flu shots for $30. The grocer accepts cash, Medicare Part B and many other third-party insurances as payment. Some pharmacies offer the Fluzone High Dose, which is recommended for people age 65 and older. For customers who meet the requirements for High Dose, wish to receive that vaccine and have Medicare coverage, the immunization will be billed to Medicare. Those without Medicare can get the shot for $60.

Seasonal Flu And Covid

Revamped COVID-19 vaccine appointment system in Oregon still causing frustration

COVID-19 and the flu will likely both be spreading this season, according to the CDC. Protecting yourself from the flu with a flu shot helps reduce your risk of serious illness and hospitalization.3 Thats important this year because there continue to be concerns about hospital capacity with the ongoing spread of COVID-19. It may be hard to know if you have COVID-19 or if it may be the flu or a cold, since symptoms are similar. Getting the COVID-19 vaccine and the flu vaccine will give you the best protection. You can even get them at the same time.3 Ask your doctor if you have more questions about how these vaccines can help protect you.

When Should You Get Your Flu Shot

Its generally recommended that people get a flu vaccine by the end of October, according to the CDC. This is especially important because of the ongoing spread of COVID-19. The flu season can last until March or April, so you can still get the flu vaccine later. No matter when you get your flu shot, it will still be valuable to help protect you for the rest of the flu season. Talk to your provider about the best time to get your flu shot. Remember to ask about other vaccines you might need to protect yourself this year too.

Where To Get A Flu Shotand Why Its More Important Than Ever

Anchorage Senior Activity Center

Getting your flu vaccine helps protect not just you, but also small children, those with weakened immune systems, and healthcare and essential workers

Every year as the days darken, the rains fall, and the cold winds blow, our immune systems get tested. Preparing for cold and flu season can take many forms, but one of the simplest options to protect yourself, your loved ones, and your community is to get a flu shot. This immunization is always helpful in preventing unnecessary illness, but this year more than ever its one of the easiest ways to help out in the fight against COVID-19.

Supporting healthcare and essential workers can be as simple as stopping by a Walgreens or Rite Aid on your way home from work. You can even combine it into a grocery shopping trip at Safeway, Haggen, or Fred Meyer. At many of these locations, the immunization is free with most insurances. At Safeway, even without insurance, the flu shot is free! All these places provide flu shots and make it convenient for you to protect your own health as well as those around you.

The flu shot isnt just to ward off your own illness, although of course it does that, too. It protects those who are unable, for age or medical reasons, to get one themselves. Children under the age of 6 months cant get a flu shot, and there are other exceptions, as well.

Munroe stresses the importance of everyone getting the annual vaccine, because the flu strikes people indiscriminately.

Fred Meyer To Offer Needle

Select stores will use the Biojector® 2000 from Portland-based Bioject Medical Technologies Inc.

PORTLAND, Ore.—- Fred Meyer customers now have a needle-free option to be immunized against the flu this fall. Most Fred Meyer stores in Alaska, Idaho, Oregon and Washington now have available traditional flu shots as well as a needle-free option that is manufactured by Portland-based Bioject Medical Technologies Inc.

Fred Meyer expects to immunize tens of thousands of customers in its stores during the 2011-2012 flu season, which can begin between October and December in the Northwest and run as late as May. According to the CDC, more than 160 million doses of flu vaccine were produced for last years flu season.

While needle-free vaccines have been used in the past in some public agencies and the military, this is the first time this option has been available to the public through their pharmacies, said Marc Cecchini, vice president and director of Pharmacy for Fred Meyer Stores. This provides a great alternative for customers who are wary of needles but want to protect themselves against the flu.

The Biojector offers patients a safe, easy and convenient alternative to the needle and syringe for their annual flu shot, said Dr. Richard Stout, executive vice president and chief medical officer of Bioject. We are pleased that Fred Meyer has chosen to incorporate this in its 2011-2012 flu immunization program.
