Ny Plans Covid Vaccine Mandate For State Employees Health Care Workers
New York will require all state employees to get vaccinated against the coronavirus by Labor Day or undergo weekly COVID-19 testing.
Additionally, all patient-facing health care workers at state hospitals will be required to get the vaccine. There will be no alternative testing option for these employees.
Judges Temporarily Block Two Vaccine Mandates
New York Supreme Court Judge Laurence Love on Tuesday, Sept. 14, issued a restraining order against New York Citys vaccine mandate for public school teachers and staff, temporarily blocking the city from enforcing it.
The court set a Sept. 22 hearing date for both sides to hash it out.
Additionally, a federal judge temporarily blocked the states mandate forcing medical workers to be vaccinated after a group of health care workers sued, saying their constitutional rights were violated.
The judge gave the state until Sept. 22 to respond to the lawsuit.
Will The University Specify Which Authorized Or Licensed Vaccine Is Preferred
The University concurs that all EUA-authorized vaccines are safe and very effective in preventing symptomatic COVID-19 and in decreasing the odds of hospitalization and death, and being infectious. Therefore, the University recommends that as many people as possible across the University system be vaccinated as soon as possible. As stated by the CDC, the best vaccine is the one that you are eligible to receive and that you can get today.

Schools And Child Care Programs
New York State Public Health Law Section 2164 and New York Codes, Rules and Regulations Title 10, Subpart 66-1 require every student entering or attending public, private or parochial school in New York State to be immune to diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, measles, mumps, rubella, poliomyelitis, hepatitis B, varicella and meningococcal in accordance with Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices recommendations. In the 2020-21 school year, meningococcal immunization is required for grades 7 through 12.
Every child in day care, Head Start, nursery school or prekindergarten in NYS must be immune to diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, measles, mumps, rubella, poliomyelitis, hepatitis B, varicella, Haemophilus influenzae type b , and pneumococcal disease.
Public Health Law Section 2164 provides for medical exemptions to immunization.

What Does It Mean To Be Fully Vaccinated
In general, per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention , people are considered fully vaccinated:
- Two weeks after their second dose in a 2-dose series, such as the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines, or
- Two weeks after a single-dose vaccine, such as Johnson & Johnsons Janssen vaccine, or
- At the time specified in either the FDA licensure or World Health Organization approval, after the final administration of any other vaccines.

Students should contact their faculty/instructors regarding minor illnesses or campus health services to address any significant issues. If you have a positive COVID-19 test, please contact your Campus Coronavirus Liaison or Student Affairs office. As a general matter, if you are experiencing flu-like symptoms, such as fever, persistent cough, or chills, or if you have a positive COVID-19 test, you should remain home, seek the attention of a medical care provider, and return to campus when you are recovered and have been given medical clearance to return.

A new lawsuit filed Friday, Sept. 17, challenges New Yorks requirement that all students, staff and faculty must wear masks while in school buildings due to the ongoing pandemic. The lawsuit, filed in New York Supreme Court, advocates for parental choice and claims the states regulation is arbitrary and capricious given the absence of any emergency justifying the use of emergency adoption procedures.

Cdc Director Overrules Panel Backs Booster For All Adults In High
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Sept. 23 endorsed booster shots for millions of older or otherwise vulnerable Americans. CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky signed off on the recommendations from a panel of advisers, but then overnight added one more the panel had rejected.
The panel had voted against saying that people ages 18 to 64 can get a booster if they are health-care workers or have another job that puts them at increased risk of being exposed to the virus.

Ny New Indoor Mask Mandate Goes Into Effect
A new mask mandate, announced by Gov. Kathy Hochul on Friday, applies to both patrons and staff at businesses and will be in effect from Monday, Dec. 13 to Jan. 15, after which the state will reevaluate.
New Yorkers do not need to mask up in indoor public spaces that require proof of vaccination to enter. In New York City, that would include all restaurants, gyms and entertainment venues. Individual businesses can implement their own vaccine requirement to avoid requiring masks.

All NYC students ages 2 months to 18 years must receive certain vaccinations. That includes children in public, private or parochial school, as well as those in day care, Head Start, pre-K or nursery school. Any child who does not meet these requirements will be sent home from school.

What Are Acceptable Reasons For Requesting An Exception Or A Medical Exemption
Enrolled students may request an exemption from the requirement that they submit proof of COVID-19 vaccination for medical or religious reasons. Students requesting an exemption for medical reasons will be required to submit a statement from a doctor or advanced practice nurse explaining the medical reason for this and the period for which the exemption is being requested. Students requesting an exception for religious reasons will be required to submit a written statement, signed by the student explaining how immunization conflicts with the students religious beliefs. Sincerely held religious belief, practice, or observance includes any traditionally recognized religion as well as beliefs, observances, or practices, which an individual sincerely holds and which occupy in their life a place of importance parallel to that of traditionally recognized religions.
