Why Isn’t The Covid Vaccine Enough By Itself Isn’t It Working
The COVID vaccines are working very well, preventing severe illness, hospitalization and death against the virus and its variants. The vast majority of patients hospitalized in the latest surge have been unvaccinated.
But public health officials are starting to see reduced protection against asymptomatic, mild and moderate cases of the disease.
Data from clinial trials showed that a Pfizer booster increased the immune response for people who were completely vaccinated six months earlier. And Immunocompromised people, who may not have received the full benefit of the initial vaccines, have seen greatly improved immunization with a third shot.

Free $10 Gift Card With Flu Shot At Publix Pharmacy
Ge a free $10 gift card with a flu vaccination at the Publix Pharmacy.
Prepare for the coming flu season and get a freebie since shots are covered by most insurance plans, including Medicare Part B. No appointment is necessary.
The pharmacy is offering a standard Influenza Trivalent vaccination recommended for everyone 6 moths of age or older Influenza Flucelvax, for those 18 years of age or older and Influenza high-dose for those 65 years of age or older. All three protect against two strains of influenza A and one B virus, according to Publix.com.
Now is an excellent time to get the shot because cases of the flu begin to rise sharply in the fall and early winter, peaking in February, according to the Centers for Disease Control.
A new vaccine is used annually to fight the most current influenza virus, so it’s necessary to get a shot each season. Also, the antibodies a person develops from the vaccine decline over time.
The CDC recommends vaccinations for those under 5 years of age, especially 2 or younger, and 65 years of age get vaccinated as they are at high risk to develop flu-related complications, such as pneumonia, bronchitis, sinus and ear infections.

Billing Flu Shots To Medicare And Commercial Insurance Companies
Since it is now flu season I have been getting a lot of questions on how to bill flu shots to commercial insurance companies and Medicare. The codes used for a particular vaccine will vary depending on intramuscular vs. intranasal use, age of the patient, formulation, preservative-free, and split or live virus. If you are unsure of what code to use I suggest looking at the package informationthat came with the vaccine. Usually, you can find the code on the packaging, and if you cant find it in the documentation then call the supplier.
This is how most of our primary care practices bill for flu shots. Your situation may be different so make sure to check all the influenza vaccine codes 90654-90668 and use the appropriate code for the vaccine administered to the patient.
Do I Need A Covid Booster Shot
You almost certainly will. Studies have shown that protection against COVID-19 infection begins to wane about six months after the initial shots, although hospitalization or death for vaccinated people is still rare.
This dropoff is pretty common for vaccines, which is why you get a flu shot every year.
People over 65 are most at risk for severe disease, which is why the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices voted unanimously to recommend to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration .that they authorize boosters.
“If you got the Pfizer vaccine in January, February and March of this year and you’re over 65 years of age, go get the booster,” President Joe Biden said. “Or if you have a medical condition like diabetes or you’re a front-line worker, like a health care worker or a teacher, you can get a free booster now.”
However, most vaccinated Americans remain well protected by the shots they already received, committee members and CDC officials said, and the best way to fight the pandemic is to get initial shots to people who have not yet received any,
More than 90% of those currently hospitalized with COVID-19 have not been vaccinated, they said.

- The trivalent flu shot option is not being carried yet by any retailer this year.
- The FLUAD quadrivalent flu shot is recommended for those age 65 and over, as it includes an adjuvant designed to strengthen, broaden, and lengthen the duration of the flu vaccine response.
- Even though I have listed the 65+ FLUAD quadrivalent prices here, everyone in this age group is eligible for free flu shots if they are enrolled in Medicare, Part B.
- In prior years, the CDC found that the FluMist quadrivalent nasal mist spray option was not as effective compared to the flu shot and it was pulled from the market. However, it is being offered at a few retailers and public health departments, with the disclaimer that certain populations should not use it.
If none of these retailers have locations by you, check out the CDCs vaccines.gov flu shot vaccine locator website, which will provide a map of providers near you that offer flu shots.
