Flu Shot Clinics Scheduled At Most Campuses

The IU Student Health Center on the Bloomington campus already has started seeing cases of the flu, according to medical director Beth Rupp. That means its more important than ever for staff and faculty to get their flu shots this year, she said.
Getting a flu shot should be the first step in preventing influenza. Anyone 6 months or older should get an annual flu shot, unless they have had a severe allergic reaction to the flu vaccine or one of its components in the past.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, getting a flu shot this year as the COVID-19 pandemic continues is critical. It can help reduce the overall impact of respiratory illnesses in the community, lessening the burden on the already-overloaded health care system.
Here are some more tips from Rupp:
- It takes about two weeks after vaccination for antibodies to develop in the body, so make plans to get vaccinated early in the fall, preferably before the end of October.
- Getting a flu shot protects not only yourself but also those around you who may be particularly vulnerable to the flu.
- Groups that are at the highest risk from the flu include the elderly, infants and those with chronic medical conditions. If you regularly interact with such people, you can help protect them by getting a flu shot.
Flu shots will be administered on most campuses this fall. You may also get vaccinated at your local pharmacy or health care provider.

What Kind Of Vaccines Will Iu Offer
The IU Bloomington flu clinics will offer a preservative-free, quadrivalent, single-dose vaccine called Fluarix that is manufactured by GSK.
Neither the high-dose vaccine for those over 65 nor the eggless vaccine will be available at the IU Bloomington clinics. Staff, faculty or students who need those types of vaccines are encouraged to seek them through an in-network provider.

The Monroe County Public Health Clinic is a collaboration between IU Health Bloomington Hospital Community Health and the Monroe County Health Department. It is also a Vaccines for Children provider, offering immunizations at no charge to children birth through 18 years of age who are uninsured, who are enrolled in Medicaid, who are Alaskan or Native American, or who have insurance that does not cover immunizations. The clinic also bills most major insurance companies for those children and adults with insurance.

Flu vaccines are covered at no cost as preventive care for faculty and staff on all IU-sponsored health plans, whether the shot is received on campus or through an in-network provider in the community. Insurance information will be collected when you schedule an appointment.
If you are not on an IU-sponsored insurance plan, you will still be able to schedule an appointment and receive a flu shot at no cost to you.
If you cannot attend a clinic at IU Bloomington, suggestions for locations to receive a flu vaccine include:
- Retail pharmacies: Check with your retail pharmacy for influenza shot availability. Employees, students and covered spouses/partners and dependents enrolled in IU-sponsored medical plans can receive the seasonal flu vaccine at no cost at in-network retail pharmacies, like CVS and Kroger.
- Health care provider: In most cases, your primary-care provider can administer flu shots. Employees, students and covered spouses/partners and dependents enrolled on IU-sponsored medical plans can receive the seasonal flu vaccine at no cost through their in-network physician.
Telehealth At Iup Health Service
During the current pandemic, IUP Health Service has instituted virtual medical appointments through the Zoom platform to facilitate accessibility to health care. At the appointment, our health care provider will address your medical needs and prescribe a mutually beneficial treatment plan.
The Health Service will remain open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. but, for the health and safety of patients and those treating you, we are no longer taking walk-in visits.

All IUPUI students, regardless of full-time, part-time, graduate, or undergraduate status, are eligible for seasonal flu shots with no out of pocket cost from IUPUI Student Health. Seasonal flu vaccines are available as same-day appointments at both the Campus Center and Coleman Hall clinics.
Students can also receive their free flu shot at the IUPUI immUNITY student vaccination clinic, an annual event held in the Campus Center during fall semester.

Iu Arnett Offering Flu Shots
LAFAYETTE, Ind. IU Health Arnett is offering patients multiple ways to get a flu shot this year.
They have opened up multiple time-slots for patients to get the vaccine.
Patients 12 or older can get it at the Retail Pharmacy in IU Health Arnett Hospital in Lafayette. No appointments are necessary.
They are open on weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., and also on weekends from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
For children under the age of 12, parents can take their kids to clinics that will be held on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. You must schedule an appointment.

Iu Health Requiring Covid
INDIANAPOLIS Indianas largest hospital system, Indiana University Health, will require all its doctors, nurses and other employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by Sept. 1.
IU Health announced the policy Tuesday in a statement that said vaccines are a safe, effective way to protect patients and help reduce the spread of the coronavirus. The health system added that its required the flu vaccine since 2012, along with several other vaccines as a condition of employment.
In 2013, IU Health fired eight employees, including three nurses, for refusing to get a flu vaccination, the Indianapolis Business Journal reported.
IU Health said employees will be allowed to apply for a deferral or exemption from the COVID-19 vaccine based on medical or religious reasons, and those applications will be reviewed on an individual basis
The COVID-19 vaccination requirement will affect more than 3,000 doctors and 31,585 other employees, from administrators and billing clerks to therapists and nurses aides, who work in IU Healths 15 hospitals and dozens of outpatient clinics.
IU Health said weeks ago that it was only recommending, not requiring, that employees get a COVID-19 vaccination, but added that it was continuing to review the policy.
IU Healths COVID-19 vaccination announcement came the same day Indiana University announced that it had modified its COVID-19 vaccination requirement to make it optional that students and employees provide proof of getting the shots.

Make an appointment for one of our clinics using the Student Health Centers online scheduler. Bring a photo ID and wear a short-sleeved shirt for easy access to your upper arm. Do not attend if you have any COVID-19 or flu-like symptoms.

Drive-up hours at the Bedford Medical Office Building are from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday and from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday.

LAFAYETTE, Ind. To reduce respiratory illness and protect those vulnerable to severe illness, IU Health Arnett stressed the importance of getting a flu shot as the influenza season approaches. The medical health organization offers options for receiving the shot.
Getting a flu vaccine will not protect against COVID-19, however flu vaccination has many other important benefits, stated Dr. Thomas Meyer, infectious disease for Indiana University Health Arnett, in a release. Flu vaccines have been shown to reduce the risk of flu illness, hospitalization and death.
For patients age 12 or older:
- Request a flu shot during any in-person visit with a healthcare provider.

Where To Get A Flu Shot
During flu season you can get a free flu shot from:

Children six moths to four years old can get their flu shot from a doctor, nurse practitioner or local public health unit. Children under five years old cannot get a flu shot at a pharmacy.

Flu Season Is Coming Get In Front Of It

Believe it or not, we are at the beginning of flu season again. This year, IU is strongly encouraging all staff, faculty and students to get an annual flu vaccine.
With rates of COVID-19 infection high across the country, its especially important to get a flu vaccine this year to help keep everyone healthy and reduce the strain on our health care system.
IU Bloomington is offering three flu shot clinics in September and October at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall.

Student Health Center To Offer Flu Shot Clinics During October For Students Faculty And Staff
The IU Student Health Center will be offering flu shot clinics throughout October for IU-Bloomington students, faculty and staff.
To make an appointment, one can do so through the clinic scheduler at the IU Student Health Center. Appointments are required and must be scheduled online. Students can attend one of the clinics or get their flu shot while in the buildings long as they are not actively sick.
The on-campus clinics are open every Wednesday in October from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., as well as Saturday, October 1, and Saturday, October 29, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
It is required people bring a photo ID and wear a short-sleeved shirt for easy access to the upper arm. Masks are also required at the Student Health Center and available for patients to pick up upon entry.
According to the Student Health Center, the IU Bloomington flu clinics will offer a preservative-free, quadrivalent, single-dose vaccine called Fluarix that is manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline Biologicals. The high-dose vaccine for those over 65 and the eggless vaccine will not be available at the IU Bloomington clinics.
Insurance information will be collected when scheduling an appointment. The cost is $51.00 without insurance and can be paid by cash, check, credit/debit card or billed to a student account.
