How Can I Be Sure That My Local Cvs Pharmacy Offers The Pfizer Vaccine For My Child Ages 12 15
At this time, our CVS Pharmacy locations that are currently offering the COVID-19 vaccine have either the Moderna, Pfizer or Johnson & Johnson vaccine not more than one type at this time. Patients are able to see which CVS Pharmacy location has which vaccine and appointment availability on CVS.com before scheduling, which is recommended especially when looking for an appointment for children ages 12 15 that require the Pfizer vaccine. Our online scheduling tool will only display appointments at locations that have the Pfizer BioNTech vaccine once the patients age is provided.
Why Is It Important To Get The Second Shot For The Pfizer And Moderna Vaccine
Both the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines have two doses, with the second dose coming a few weeks after the first. Pfizer-BioNTechs second dose comes three weeks after the first, and Modernas comes four weeks later. The second dose gives people a strong, long-lasting immunity. While these two vaccines include a second dose, the Janssen vaccine requires one dose.
Prescriptions Refills And Pharmacy Hours
To support physical distancing, were encouraging members to use mail order for nonurgent prescriptions and refills. This will also save you time and may reduce costs. You can avoid standing in line and get a 3-month supply of most prescriptions for the price of 2 months. Were working to deliver mail-order prescriptions within 3 to 5 days, but try to plan ahead when possible.
Visit kp.org/pharmacy to get started. For urgent prescriptions, visit your closest available Kaiser Permanente pharmacy.

Who Qualifies For A Booster Shot
Following guidelines set by ACIP and the CDC on November 19, all individuals who are over the age of 18 are eligible to receive a Moderna or Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 booster shot at least six months after their primary two-dose vaccination series.
On December 9, the FDA and CDC authorized the administration of a booster dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine for patients ages 16-17 years, six months after receiving the second dose of their primary COVID-19 vaccination series.
Eligible individuals do not need to receive a booster shot that matches the formulation of their primary series. If individuals choose a booster dose that differs from their primary vaccine series, the manufacturers recommend individuals should check with their health care provider regarding the timing of the booster dose.
Additionally, individuals who are 18 years and old and received the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine may receive a single booster does of Johnson & Johnson , Moderna, or Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine at least two months after receiving their primary vaccination.
Patients who received a Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine and prefer to receive a Johnson & Johnson booster are encouraged to contact their primary care provider for best next steps or refer tovaccines.govfor more information.

What Is Antibody Testing For A Past Covid
Antibodies are proteins that help fight off infections. An antibody blood test looks for antibodies in a persons blood. Kaiser Permanente is participating in research to help us learn more about COVID-19 antibodies.
Were not recommending antibody testing outside of research studies at this time. Antibody testing has limited clinical value and should not be used to diagnose active infection, determine immunity to COVID-19, make decisions about returning to work, or assess the need for vaccination in an unvaccinated person.
The CDC doesnt recommend getting an antibody test to determine if you need a COVID-19 vaccine or to check your immunity after being vaccinated.
Yes, but please keep in mind that we arent recommending antibody testing outside of research studies at this time because it has limited clinical value. However, Kaiser Permanente will provide antibody testing upon request for members who:
- Have no current COVID-19 symptoms and
- Had symptoms but dont anymore. It needs to have been more than 14 days since the onset of COVID-19 symptoms or a positive PCR test and
- Have not had an antibody test in the last 30 days .
- Are a pediatric patient being evaluated for Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children.
If you have symptoms now, you shouldn’t get the antibody test. You should .

What Do I Need To Do/know About The Johnson & Johnsons Janssen Covid
The FDA and the CDC are confident that the vaccine is safe and effective at preventing COVID-19. At this time, the available data suggests that the chance of developing a rare blood disorder thrombosis with thrombocytopenia syndrome is very low, and the benefits of the vaccine outweigh the risks.
For women between the ages of 18 and 49, this adverse event is rare, occurring at a rate of about 7 per 1 million vaccinated women. For women 50 years and older and men of all ages, this adverse event is even more rare. Women younger than 50 should be aware that other COVID-19 vaccines are available where this risk has not been seen.
Patients who receive the Janssen vaccine should monitor for severe headache, abdominal pain, leg pain or shortness of breath for 2 weeks after administration.
If experiencing symptoms, patients should contact their healthcare provider.
The Janssen, Pfizer-BioNTech, and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines are offered in select CVS locations. Find locations and schedule your appointment.
Which Vaccines Have Been Fda Approved For Covid
The FDA has rigorous scientific and regulatory processes in place to facilitate development and ensure the safety, effectiveness and quality of COVID-19 vaccines. As of August 23, 2021, the FDA has issued full approval of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine for ages 16+.
The previously issued Emergency Use Authorizations for the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine for those ages 12 to 15 and third doses for the immunocompromised, as well as EUAs for COVID-19 vaccines manufactured by Moderna and Johnson & Johnsons Janssen, remain in effect. An EUA gives the FDA authority to allow unapproved medical products to be used in emergencies when no approved alternatives are available. Other COVID-19 vaccines are in development and will be reviewed by the FDA under EUA. Find the current status of the vaccine approvals and EUAs.

This Flu Season Getting Vaccinated Is More Important Than Ever Kaiser Physicians Say
Getting your flu shot this year will be more important than ever, health experts advise, because of the coronavirus pandemic.
At the Kaiser Permanente Fontana Medical Center, flu shots are now available for members Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Saturdays from 7:30 a.m. to noon.
Every year, physicians recommend getting vaccinated to protect yourself against contracting or spreading influenza. But this year the health crisis has made this single act of preventative care especially critical at protecting yourself from a disease that plagues millions.
The flu virus will weaken your immune system, making you more vulnerable to catching other respiratory infections, including COVID-19, and thats why getting vaccinated this year is so important, said Dr. Margaret Khoury, an infectious disease specialist who is Kaiser Permanente Southern Californias COVID-19 and influenza vaccination program physician lead.
She noted that having the flu and COVID-19 at the same time would be devastating to your health.
The influenza vaccine remains the most effective prevention against contracting the flu and its complications, Dr. Khoury explained.
In most years, millions of people get the flu, and hundreds of thousands of individuals end up in the emergency room or hospitalized with severe complications, said Dr. David Bronstein, who also practices at Kaiser Permanente Southern California.
