How Effective Is The Flu Vaccine

Riverside holding free flu shot clinics throughout October

While vaccine effectiveness can vary from year to year, recent studies from the CDC report that the flu vaccine reduces the risk of flu illness by between 40% and 60% among the overall population during seasons when most circulating flu viruses are well-matched to the flu vaccine.

Because we do not know if this years flu vaccine will be effective until toward the end of the flu season, the best thing you can do to protect yourself and the community is to get a flu shot.

What Is A Deductible

A deductible is a fixed amount a patient must pay each year before their health insurance benefits begin to cover the costs. After your deductible has been met, patients typically pay coinsurance a percentage of the total costs for any services that are covered by the plan. They continue to pay the coinsurance until they meet their out-of-pocket maximum for the year.

Why Did I Get Money From One Medical Via Chase Payments/zelle

In order to send refunds to our members faster and more securely, we recently started using Chase Payments and Zelle.

The most common reason that we owe you a refund is that your insurance company adjusted the amount they paid for a claim after you paid for the services. Its also possible that you overpaid a copay or accidentally paid a bill twice.

Why Get A Flu Shot

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends a flu shot for most people age 6 months and older. And during the ongoing pandemic, it’s more important than ever to be vaccinated: A normal flu season that coincides with a COVID-19 surge could overwhelm our health systems.

The flu vaccine reduces the risk of infection, hospitalization and death. It also protects vulnerable individuals like children, the elderly and people with a weakened immune system , who are more likely to get severely ill. And it reduces the burden on our health care system, already stretched thin from caring for COVID-19 patients. Get your flu shot!

The vaccine is especially important for people at higher risk of complications from the flu, including:

  • Pregnant women
  • People with certain medical conditions, including asthma, diabetes and chronic lung disease
  • People who live with or provide care to infants
  • Adults age 65 and older
  • Children age 5 and younger

Some people should not get a flu shot without first talking to their health care provider. This includes people who:

  • Have had a bad reaction to the flu shot in the past
  • Are allergic to chicken eggs
  • Have a fever on the day they’re scheduled for a flu shot
