With flu season just around the corner, its time once again to roll up our sleeves for the annual flu vaccine, and Walmart is making it easy with online booking.
In most provinces across Canada, shoppers can easily book their flu shots online at Walmart. If the nearest location doesnt have available appointments, you can sign up for notifications to get a text when appointments become available.
Canadians living in Alberta, Quebec, and Northwest Territories will not be able to use the online booking system at this time.

We expect to see a very high demand for flu shots among both new and returning patients, especially due to COVID-19 and the fourth wave and were very proud to be there to help,Shelly Kiroff, senior vice-president of Health and Wellness at Walmart Canada, said in a press release.
In Ontario, the province has ordered 1.4 million additional flu vaccine doses after a record number of people turned out to get their annual shot. In 2020, nearly 40% of Ontarians got their flu shot, typically just 30% do.

Walmart Makes Flu Shots Available At Its Pharmacies
– Walmart Inc. announced that flu shots are now available at its 4,700+ pharmacies nationwide with new features and safety precautions for COVID-19.
The retailer is also launching a digital scheduler for customers to book an appointment for a flu shot at any one of Walmart’s 4,700+ pharmacies for a fast and efficient visit. Walk-in appointments are also available, the company said.
“Flu shots are more important than ever in light of COVID-19. With our health care system facing the strain of the pandemic on top of the annual flu season, getting a flu shot can help lessen the burden on the health care industry while also protecting against at least one of the viruses affecting our well-being,” Dr. Tom Van Gilder, Walmart’s Chief Medical Officer, said.
Additionally, Walmart stores will host in-store events nationwide on Tuesday mornings and Thursday afternoons to encourage customers to get their flu shots during their regularly scheduled shopping trips. These events commence on Thursday, September 10, at different times depending on the store’s location. On Saturday, September 26, Walmart will host a flu shot Wellness Day from 10am to 2pm.
Walmart is also offering a special pharmacy hour for seniors and at-risk customers from 6 a.m. to 7 a.m. on Tuesday mornings with flu shots available during this time frame.

Who Is Eligible For A Third
The Pfizer booster shots will be made available in accordance to recommendations from the CDC and FDA, according to Ellis.
Booster shots are generally given after six months after the second shot of Pfizer as a way to just enhance the protection provided by that vaccine, Ellis said. So anyone who is interested in a third dose, if they got their vaccine earlier this year, in February or March, theyd now be eligible for the booster.

Third vaccination shots which are different from booster shots will be available for patients who are considered moderately or severely immunosuppressed, Ellis said. Recipients eligible for a third shot include: those receiving cancer treatment for tumors or cancers of the blood organ transplant patients who are taking medicine to suppress the immune system patients who have received a stem cell transplant within the last two years or are taking medicine to suppress the immune system patients who were diagnosed with DiGeorge syndrome or Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome anyone diagnosed with HIV and has a high viral load or low CD4 count, or are not currently taking medication to treat HIV patients taking drugs such as high-dose steroids or other medications that may cause severe suppression of the immune system.
Ellis said that eligible participants will be able to receive both a flu vaccine and a third dose or booster shot at the event.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, reducing the overall burden of respiratory illnesses is important to protect vulnerable populations at risk for severe illness, the healthcare system, and other critical infrastructure. Thus, healthcare personnel should use every opportunity during the influenza season to administer influenza vaccines to all eligible persons, the CDC said.
Rite Aid is offering the flu vaccine via walk-in appointments and online scheduling. Rite Aid began administering the flu shot on Aug. 12.
Walmart said it is offering a low-cost flu vaccine and a free COVID-19 vaccine that people can get at the same time.
Walmart said it also will continue to take precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19 while administering vaccines.
CVS said it has flu shots available at all CVS Pharmacy and MinuteClinic locations.
