CVS Health announced Wednesday all pharmacies will now begin offering flu shots to continue improving the publics health and protecting the community.

CVS says especially with the rise in cases of COVID-19, its more important now than ever before to keep up with vaccinations and other needs. The CDC recommends getting vaccinated in the early fall, no later than the end of October.

CVS Health has administered approximately 30 million COVID-19 vaccinations to date, in addition to more than 20 million flu and other vaccinations over the past twelve months, Neela Montgomery, Executive Vice President, CVS Health and President, CVS Pharmacy said. We have built a simple vaccination experience where customers appreciate the convenience and safety.

The company says people are increasingly intending to get their flu shot, with 71% saying theyre definitely or most likely going to get it this season, according to a CVS survey.

CVS will have flu shots available seven days a week, with the intention to expand evening and weekend hours.

CVS Health is reminding Americans that as the country continues to deal with the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic it is more important than ever to stay current with vaccinations and other routine health care needs. By getting a flu shot this fall and taking other proactive measures to improve general health and immunity, individuals and families can protect themselves against seasonal flu and help safeguard the overall health of the community.

According to a survey commissioned by CVS Health Flu Intention Survey, commissioned by CVS Health in June 2021 and conducted among a general population of U.S. consumers, consumers intention to get vaccinated against seasonal flu increased five percentage points from June 2020 to June 2021, with 71 percent of those surveyed saying they definitely or likely will get a flu shot this season. In addition, 45 percent of consumers surveyed said they planned to get a flu shot at a retail pharmacy, the most preferred destination cited, followed by a doctors office .

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that individuals make plans to get vaccinated early in the fall, before flu season begins, and ideally no later than the end of October.

Walgreens Cvs Taking Extra Precautions To Deliver Flu Shots Amid Pandemic

Walgreens and CVS pharmacists are taking extra precautions to administer flu shots this year, including checking patient temperatures and wearing face shields, USA Todayreported.

Both chains are now offering flu shots as the combination of flu season and the COVID-19 pandemic is expected to strain the healthcare system.

Walgreens said that their pharmacists will take patient temperatures and screen for symptoms or illness before giving flu shots. They won’t give flu shots to patients who have a fever or symptoms associated with illness until the symptoms are gone, Walgreens said.

CVS also will conduct temperature checks, ask about COVID-19 symptoms and require pharmacists to wear face shields while giving the shots, USA Today reported.

CVS said it plans to give more than double the typical number of flu shots this year. Walgreens said it expects a 30 percent to 50 percent increase in flu shot demand.

Both pharmacy chains are encouraging patients to set appointments and complete paperwork online before showing up for flu shots, but appointments are not required, according to USA Today. Patients are required to wear masks to receive the flu shot.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that people age 6 months and older receive a flu shot before the end of October and that getting it is even more important during the pandemic.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, reducing the overall burden of respiratory illnesses is important to protect vulnerable populations at risk for severe illness, the healthcare system, and other critical infrastructure. Thus, healthcare personnel should use every opportunity during the influenza season to administer influenza vaccines to all eligible persons, the CDC said.

Rite Aid is offering the flu vaccine via walk-in appointments and online scheduling. Rite Aid began administering the flu shot on Aug. 12.

Walmart said it is offering a low-cost flu vaccine and a free COVID-19 vaccine that people can get at the same time.

Walmart said it also will continue to take precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19 while administering vaccines.

At MinuteClinic, the rules are a little different than at CVS Pharmacy. First, MinuteClinic doesnt offer COVID-19 vaccines. Many clinics still accept walk-ins, but some require appointments during the pandemic.

Lastly, unlike CVS Pharmacy, where pharmacists give shots, MinuteClinic is staffed by medical providers. That means a nurse practitioner or physician assistant will deliver your immunization instead of a pharmacist.

Cvs To Hire 25000 Pharmacy And Retail Workers To Boost Flu Shots And Covid

CVS Health Corp. announced Monday its hiring 25,000 clinical and retail workers to respond to demand for COVID-19 vaccinations and testing and an expected spike in the flu this fall and winter.

About 470 hires are expected in Connecticut.

The nationwide hiring represents the latest drive by CVS, the parent company of Hartford-based Aetna, to attract workers in a labor market characterized by too-few job candidates. CVS announced last month it will raise its minimum hourly wage to $15 starting July 2022, with incremental increases to the companys competitive hourly rates that have already been hiked.
